Best of 2019

Now that 2019 has come to a close it’s time to reflect back on our favorite shots as photographers. Below are submissions from our members, what individually, we feel are our best images from 2019.

A Trip To The McCarran Ranch Preserve

Fall colors are setting in, here in Northern Nevada. In our second field-trip as a group, we visited McCarran Ranch, approximately 15 minutes outside of Reno.

Beginning in 2003, The Nature Conservancy took over the management for the former ranch land that had seen the straightening of the river channel in flood control efforts, along with the encroachment of the Reno Tahoe Industrial Park, nearby. The McCarran Ranch Preserve River trail opened to the public in 2012, allowing the public to explore the recently restored area.

A Trip To The Donner Train Sheds

In our first trip as a group, we visited the Snow Sheds of Donner Summit, just outside of Truckee, California.

This historic location was once used as a safe passage for trains of the Union Pacific Railroad to travel through the snow-laden area.

Now, the abandoned railroad tunnel has been overrun with graffiti, but still offers a fantastic example of the history of Northern California. The way the light enters in different spots along the tunnel, as well as the frequent exits that provided vistas of the valley and lake below, are a photographers dream.
